PSP Causing 2nd Degree Burns? Crazy!

You parents who’s children carry their PSP in their pockets might find the article below interesting. Happy Gaming!
TG Daily - PSP with Burnout game burns child
Detroit (MI) - A 12-year-old boy was treated for second-degree burns after a PSP burnt a hole in his pocket, ironically with the game “Burnout” inside.Henry Clay was sitting in class when he felt a burning sensation on his leg and called for his teacher. He soon realized that his PSP had actually caught fire in his pants pocket. He was sent to the hospital and treated for second-degree burns.
Early reports suggest the lithium ion battery exploded from overheating. However, “it wasn’t on. It was just in his pocket,” said the boy’s father Harold Clay. Ironically, the game inside the device was a racing game from Electronic Arts called “Burnout Legends.”
Henry’s mother, Sheila Clay, described what her son went through in an interview with local news in Detroit. “He said it wasn’t a gradual heat. It really started heating up. He’s always been taught burn - fire - smoke, you drop and you roll. So, he dropped and rolled,” said Sheila.
It is not the first case of the device’s battery exploding. Sony has confirmed previous reports from other users with singed PSP units. Sony is investigating this case.

Patapon To Be Release For PSP! Review
Last modified on 2008-01-21 23:23:21 GMT. 0 comments. Top.
Gameplanet - Features - Patapon (PSP) - First Look
DRIVEN FROM THEIR HOME by an evil army, the Patapon are a tribe of warriors who lie in waiting for a deity who can once again beat the drums of war so that they can take back what is rightfully theirs in Sony’s latest release Patapon. To be released on PSP, Patapon is similar to what was seen in PaRappa the Rapper, with a 2D layout and cut out styled design. In Patapon you will lead the tribe through a series of wars by beating the war drums, which is done by following/hitting the sequence of buttons presented.
It’s an odd looking game and is very similar to what has already been seen in PaRappa the Rapper, however this is only the first look into Patapon so things may be a lot different when more detail is released.

AFP: Sony says Skype coming to PlayStation Portable
Sony says Skype coming to PlayStation PortableJan 6, 2008
TOKYO (AFP) — Sony said Monday that it had teamed up with Skype to enable users of its new slim PlayStation Portable handheld video game machine to make free or low cost telephone calls around the world.
In the latest move by the electronics giant to try to broaden the appeal of its consoles amid fierce competition with rival Nintendo Co, Sony said the new service would be available in late January for PSP-2000 owners.
After a system software update, PSP users will be able to chat for free to other Skype users and, for a charge, call landlines and mobile phones anywhere in the world, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. said in a statement.
The move aims to “promote the expansion of the PSP platform as a handheld entertainment system to enjoy a variety of interactive digital entertainment,” it said.
Skype, which was bought by eBay in October of 2004, uses a peer-to-peer network to enable users to make free Internet telephone calls to each other through their computers.
Skype calls “out” to standard or mobile telephones can be made at low rates.
Sony meanwhile, which changed the way the world listens to music with the Walkman, is trying to regain its cool credentials after struggling in recent years against innovative new products like Apple’s iPod and Nintendo’s Wii.

Playstation Portable Phone Not Coming Soon
Playstation Portable Phone Not Coming Soon

Email email this story to somebody Discuss (0 replies) discuss this story with others Print print this storyThis week, Skype announced a version of its phone-like for the Sony Playstation Portable. However, that’s as close as the PSP is going to get to becoming a smartphone for some time.
Speaking at the Consumer Electronics Show this week, Merran Wrigley, a Sony Ericsson VP, said that her company doesn’t believe that, given the current state of mobile technology, it would be able to create a phone worthy of the Playstation brand.
Sony Ericsson’s vision for this device is more than just a current PSP with a phone grafted onto it. It feels this device should offer features like quick game downloads and multi-playing gaming, but the company doesn’t believe that cellular-wireless networks are ready for this yet.
Still, a Playstation Phone is something Sony Ericsson will continue to look into.
Skype for the PSP
For those who want to use the current PSP as a phone, there’s the VoIP solution coming later this month from Skype.
This will allow users to make free voice calls to other Skype users, see which friends are online and available to talk, and — with the purchase of Skype Credit — make inexpensive SkypeOut calls and receive SkypeIn calls to regular phones.
Naturally, for this to work the device needs to be connected to a Wi-Fi network.
More information is available on skype.com.

2008 brought continued video-game industry consolidation with Take-Two’s acquisition of Illusion Softworks, best known for 2002’s “Mafia.”
At the International Consumer Electronics Show, Sony announced a September release date for “LittleBigPlanet” for PlayStation 3.The annual International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas doesn’t cater much to gamers, unless you’re the type who needs a 150-inch plasma TV to play “Call of Duty 4.”
But there were a few video-game-related announcements at this year’s show — thanks mainly to Sony, which always has a big presence at CES with its broad range of tech products.

Free Wi-Fi If your willing to run the latest bloat errr… Firmware..
Last modified on 2008-01-06 23:29:58 GMT. 0 comments. Top.
If you are willing to run the latest and greatest firmware you can pick up 6 months of free Wi-Fi service from T-Mobile. This might be a decent deal for those of you in areas that you can get T-Mobile but are limited in an abundant number of wireless access points. If you live in a big metro area this could still hold some value if the need to be totally mobile all the time, in other words it’s annoying to have to “wardrive” everytime you move locations during your daytime travels.
After you read the article below check out this link for the #1 PSP Download service!
T-Mobile Offers Free Wi-Fi To PSP Players — Wi-Fi — InformationWeek
T-Mobile is offering complimentary Wi-Fi service for six months to Sony PlayStation Portable owners who upgrade to the latest PSP firmware.People with version 3.30 in the handheld gaming device can choose the “use wireless hotspot” option and follow the instructions to get connected. T-Mobile hotspots are commonly found in Starbucks, Borders Books and Music stores, hotels, airports, and other locations.
The complimentary service includes complete Internet access, including surfing, downloading games and other media, as well as playing video games online. T-Mobile has more than 7,000 Wi-Fi access points across the United States.
Following the first six months of service, PSP owners will have the option of purchasing a subscription at a special rate that wasn’t disclosed. PSP owners have until March 28, 2008, to take advantage of the promotion.
Sony Computer Entertainment America said in a statement the T-Mobile partnership makes it more convenient for PSP owners to access online multiplayer games. For T-Mobile, the deal lets it tap into a large pool of potentially new customers.
“Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters” is the first title to support the new online access by embedding a button in the software to connect to T-Mobile. Additional titles are scheduled for release this year.
Other features in the firmware upgrade include support for full-resolution video, 720 by 480 pixels. In addition, thumbnail files for video and RSS content can now be displayed. PSP firmware can be downloaded wirelessly over a Wi-Fi connection, or downloaded to a PC and then transferred to the PSP over a USB cable.
The market around portable game players is big business globally. DFC Intelligence estimates worldwide revenue from Nintendo and Sony systems would exceed $10 billion this year. The market is being led by the Nintendo DS, which was the hottest selling system last year, according the researcher.
Deals like T-Mobile are important for helping Sony establish a solid position in the market against its rival. “A great deal will depend on the focus Sony Computer Entertainment decides to put on promoting the PSP platform over the next few years,” DFC said.
